Our True Story

 When I moved into my own apartment it was my first time on my own. My mental state was a bit of a mess to say the least. Between my identity issues, ASD, and Body Dysmorphic Disorder I was feeling seriously alone. It didn’t help that I had recently lost one of my closest friends and quickly drifting apart from another. 

I decided it was time to look for a new friend online. A furry friend.

I saw many cats on Petfinder but one photo in particular caught my eye. It was a photo of a cat with bangs appropriately named “Bangs”. The first thing I noticed about her description was that it said she looked “Unusual”. I immediately took this as a negative trait and empathized with the cat. I thought to myself -

“Well, we can look ‘unusual’ together”. 

I kept looking at other cats but in the back of my mind I knew I had to pay Bangs a visit if she was still available when the time came for me to adopt.

Long story short - Adoption day came and Miss Bangs is my companion animal. She helps me calm down when I have autistic meltdowns, she helps me with my anxiety, but best of all she has helped me accept myself more each day for being different or “unusual”. I went from lying in bed each night praying not to wake up the next morning to thanking God for bringing Miss Bangs into my life and giving me purpose.

This is just my point of view on the story of Miss Bangs and I. Our book will be told from her point of view and have a fantasy element to it. We hope you'll check it out and enjoy!
